My name is Steven, a self taught artist.
My interest in art began when I was a child. There was a couple who where artists that lived in the basement apartment where I grew up. I remembered the first time I walked into their apartment. It was filled with so many paintings. I was fascinated by the beauty and concepts of this art. I wished I could paint like this. As a child, I did not know what was good or bad art. What I did know was how it made me feel.
Throughout the first half of my life, I did not have time for creating art. I did not even have time to think about the concept of being an artist or thinking about the wonder and beauty of the world. I did not realize how many fascinating things I missed by not paying attention to what is around me. It has obviously been a long while since art had a place in my life. I never realized how much I have missed.
Being a former factory worker, I started getting serious about art after I was laid off several years ago. I started going to art museums and galleries. I also decided to work on my technique and paint the paintings that are meaningful to me. I hope to continue to paint, create, and to grow throughout the remaining years of my life.
Art is not about perfection or realism, it is about meaning through expression.
My journey has just begun and will last to the end.
